Nominations for Executive Committee Open Officer and Member Positions

NABP is pleased to announce the following individuals as nominees for open officer and member positions on the NABP 2008-2009 Executive Committee to date. Individuals interested in running for open officer or member positions, please refer to the NABP Constitution and Bylaws, Article IV, Section 3(b) and 3(c), respectively.

Unlike traditional nominations from the floor, the process for open nominations requires that an individual submit a letter of interest to NABP. Individuals who submitted letters of interest for open nominations and are deemed eligible in accordance with NABP’s Constitution will be considered nominees. All eligible individuals who are nominated from the Districts or through open nominations will be placed on the ballot.

Nominee for the Open Officer Position of President-elect on the Executive Committee

How has your experience prepared you to lead NABP over the next few years?

Schnabel Gary A. Schnabel, RPh, RN
Oregon State Board of Pharmacy

Through my tenure as compliance director and executive director for the Oregon Board of Pharmacy I have honed the skills and arts of leadership necessary to successfully manage and guide a state agency through the maze of personal, professional and political challenges. These include not only agency and board management, but also ongoing focused attention to pharmacy practice and drug distribution, public health and safety and personal liaison with the Governor, the state legislature and other regulatory agencies.

As an NABP Executive Committee member and Treasurer, I have transferred and applied these skills to bring my energy, attention and best judgment to the table. This experience has prepared me to lead NABP in service to its member jurisdictions in the interest of public health and safety. Curriculum Vitae

Why are you interested in serving NABP in the capacity of an officer?

Winsley William T. “Bill” Winsley, MS, RPh
Ohio State Board of Pharmacy

Having been associated with NABP in a number of roles over the last 12 years, including membership on the Executive Committee for the last three years, I have been able to witness and, in a small part, participate in the growth of the organization, both in effectiveness and in public recognition. This has happened due to the commitment of the staff, the officers, the Executive Committee, and the membership. I have enjoyed my time on the Executive Committee and would like to continue being an active participant in NABP’s continued success by serving as Treasurer for the next year. Curriculum Vitae

What do you see as the role of an NABP Executive Committee member, and what is your vision for the future of NABP?

Burleson Michael A. Burleson, RPh
Kentucky Board of Pharmacy

An NABP Executive Committee member's role is an on-going responsibility to manage the business and operations of the organization. A member should be knowledgeable of the current policies and guidelines that NABP has established to assist member boards in developing, implementing and enforcing uniform standards that protect the public’s health. The member must work with the members of the NABP Executive Committee, the membership, and other organizations to review and revise these policies and guidelines as necessary.

The future of NABP is that it must work diligently to stay abreast of issues, such as technology, federal legislation, state legislation, educational requirements, practice settings, and standards of care which affect the practice of pharmacy. Curriculum Vitae

Nominee for the District 4 Open Member Position on the Executive Committee (three-year term)

What do you see as the role of an NABP Executive Committee member, and what is your vision for the future of NABP?

Braylock Gregory Braylock, RPh
Ohio State Board of Pharmacy

The role of an NABP Executive Committee Member is to embrace, to embody, and to fully support the NABP mission statement. An Executive Committee member should be open minded in discussion and consideration on all issues and actively participate at any level deemed necessary by the organization. I envision the future of NABP to involve an expanded leadership role both internationally and nationally, but especially nationally. The landscape of the pharmacy profession in America is rapidly changing with the growth in technology, expanding roles of pharmacists and technicians, federal issues such as e-health, integrated health-care, my-chart (Goggle/ Cleveland Clinic) and now a current political issue of National Health-care Insurance for all Americans. All of these issues will have some impact directly or indirectly on NABP’s needed leadership involvement. Curriculum Vitae

Indiana Board of Pharmacy

An Executive Committee member needs to participate and lead by using three distinct skills. First, an Executive Committee member needs to be an effective listener in order to assimilate other perspective viewpoints. Secondly, to foster partnership-type approaches among the membership to transform these various perspectives into a collective voice. Thirdly, to communicate the new and established goals to the membership and to those outside the organization.  The role of NABP in the future should be to continue assisting member boards of pharmacy through its many services.  Also, to enhance the development and adoption of model rules to ensure patient safety as pharmacy practice focuses more on cognitive skill services and technology enables practice outside of traditional pharmacy and State boundaries. What do you see as the role of an NABP Executive Committee member, and what is your vision for the future of NABP?

wandHal Wand, RPh
Arizona State Board of Pharmacy

I believe the role of an NABP Executive Committee member is to provide input from the District represented to the other Executive Committee members as well as to NABP staff and ultimately to the NABP membership as a whole. The Executive Committee members also serve as facilitators to focus the efforts and resources of the Districts and NABP to plan, organize and implement NABP activities in response to opportunities and obstacles presented during their terms of service.

My NABP vision is to develop, implement, and seek compliance with uniform standards that protect the public health and safety. By embracing new technologies for medication therapy and delivery systems we can ensure that the desire for economic gain does not negatively impact the standards NABP has adopted and will adopt.
