NABP Clearinghouse
If you are a pharmacist licensed in multiple states, your actions in one state may affect your ability to obtain or maintain a license to practice pharmacy in another state. Most boards of pharmacy take disciplinary actions occurring outside their jurisdiction into consideration when making decisions about licensure and renewal. In fact, some boards impose their own sanctions upon discovering that a pharmacist has been disciplined in another state. Boards of pharmacy obtain such information from the NABP Clearinghouse.
Boards of pharmacy report information on their licensees to the NABP Clearinghouse, which is a national database of information supplied by the boards of pharmacy. It houses educational, competence, licensure, and disciplinary information on pharmacists, technicians, and interns practicing in NABP’s member states and jurisdictions. Among other things, this information is used in determining the acceptability and qualifications of those wishing to transfer their examination scores or pharmacy licenses into other states.
Some of this information is available through NABP’s PPAD database, which allows you to search for basic information on individuals and facilities that have been disciplined as well as those who have achieved FPGEC Certification.
How it Works
Upon receiving information from the boards of pharmacy, NABP processes the information and then issues each board a comprehensive report of the database records contained in the Clearinghouse. Therefore, if you are licensed in multiple states, each board where you are licensed will receive information about disciplinary actions or sanctions taken by any other board.
Responsibilities of a Licensed Pharmacist
Most boards of pharmacy require that licensees report information on any and all licenses they hold. Pharmacists who provide accurate and complete information to all states where they are licensed to practice pharmacy ensure that they are fulfilling the obligations of their profession. Omissions not only delay the licensure transfer process if you are pursuing a transfer, but can also result in further action taken against any or all licenses you hold.
