NABP No Longer Taking New Applications
Effective immediately, NABP will not accept new e-Advertiser applications, renewals, or re-approval applications. The Association is incorporating the e-Advertiser Approval program into the .Pharmacy Top-Level Domain Program to streamline its accreditation and approval programs. Those interested in getting a .pharmacy domain name may visit the .Pharmacy Program website for more information. .Pharmacy registrants are eligible for search engine advertising. Facilities that currently have e-Advertiser Approval may maintain all program privileges until it officially ends on August 31, 2017.
NABP e-Advertiser Approval Program
The NABP e-Advertiser Approval Program was developed by NABP to identify internet advertisers that offer only limited pharmacy services or other prescription drug-related services online. The program helped internet search engines such as Google, Yahoo!, and Bing make it more difficult for rogue internet drug outlets to advertise and demonstrated the search engines’ commitment to patient safety. Entities that earned NABP e-Advertiser Approval did so by meeting standards set by the Association.
Since it was launched in 2010, the program has proven to be reliable and has successfully met the needs of the search engines. However, the internet has changed considerably since the e-Advertiser program was launched. Accordingly, the NABP internet programs, including e-Advertiser, must likewise evolve and progress to meet the safety and security challenges facing online consumers. Therefore, NABP is incorporating the e-Advertiser program into its new .Pharmacy Top-Level Domain (TLD) Program.
The .Pharmacy TLD Program – Taking Consumer Reassurance to the Next Level
In 2014, NABP launched the .Pharmacy Top-Level Domain Program to provide an even easier and safer way for consumers to identify legitimate online pharmacies and pharmacy-related resources. .Pharmacy is a TLD like “.gov” or “.edu,” but only legitimate internet pharmacies and websites offering pharmacy-related services are allowed to use it. In today’s digital environment, .pharmacy is the way to turn the tide against sophisticated criminals who build authentic-looking sites and can easily duplicate verification logos to trick unsuspecting consumers into thinking they are visiting a legitimate online pharmacy. With .pharmacy, the “seal of quality” is built into the web address.
As with all NABP programs, vetting for .pharmacy applicants is thorough and requires those seeking approval to prove that they are operating safely, legitimately, and in accordance with program standards. And once NABP has granted approval, the Association continues to monitor registered sites to be sure that they adhere to program standards and operate legitimately.
