York Man Federally Sentenced for Prescription Drug Fraud Conspiracy

Curtis L. Hess of York, PA, was sentenced on May 12, 2010, to a 16-month term of imprisonment for introducing misbranded drugs into interstate commerce with the intent to defraud and mislead, according to a US Department of Justice press release. US Attorney Dennis Pfannenschmidt reported that from January 2005 until April 2006, Hess smuggled prescription drugs from Canada into the US through his company Hess Rx Distribution, LLC. The non-FDA-approved drugs were then distributed to pharmacies throughout the country. Thus, patients who received the drugs were unaware that they were not FDA-approved and had been smuggled into the country. Hess was also ordered to pay an $18,000 fine and to forfeit over $76,000.
