Marla Ahlgrimm, a pharmacist and founder of Women’s Health America, and Balbir Bhogal are accused by federal prosecutors of conspiring to deliver counterfeit controlled substances and were arrested in Wisconsin on September 1, 2010. According to the Associated Press, a Federal Bureau of Investigation informant claims to have ordered millions of anti-anxiety pills and appetite suppressants from Ahlgrimm and Bhogal in 2008 and 2009. The informant, who does not hold a license to purchase prescription drugs and was operating an illegal Internet drug outlet, also told investigators that the drugs were shipped from India, partially damaged and unlabeled. A second informant claims to have ordered oxycodone, hydrocodone, and a product marketed as generic Viagra® which were shipped from India, China, and Wisconsin. A United States judge in Madison ordered Ahlgrimm released from custody and ordered her to post a $150,000 bond when she appeared in federal court in New York on September 9, 2010, reports the AP. Bhogal remained in custody as of Friday, September 3.
