William T. Winsley, MS, RPh, Begins Term as NABP President During the 106th Annual Meeting

William T. Winsley, MS, RPh, began his term as president of the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy® (NABP® ) during the Final Business Session of the Association’s 106th Annual Meeting, May 22-25, 2010, in Anaheim, CA. During his presidency, Mr Winsley is committed to empowering the boards through NABP outreach efforts that will help identify unique board needs and offer appropriate assistance, as well as offer assistance with relevant state legislative issues. Under Mr Winsley’s leadership, NABP will also create new opportunities for networking among boards to help members address common issues as they work to regulate the practice with the goal of protecting the public health.

Mr Winsley was sworn in as the 106th NABP president after serving a one-year term as the Association’s president-elect and one year as treasurer. Prior to that, Mr Winsley served as a member of the NABP Executive Committee representing District 4 for four years. After his presidency concludes, he will serve a one-year term as chairperson of the Association’s Executive Committee.  

Executive director of the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy since 1998, Mr Winsley has also held the positions of assistant executive director, director of internship, and compliance specialist with the Ohio Board. Before joining the Board, he was the assistant director of pharmacy at Akron City Hospital, assistant director of pharmacy at the West Virginia University Medical Center, an instructor at the West Virginia University College of Pharmacy, and a supervisor of drug distribution at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, OH.

In addition to serving as a member of the NABP Executive Committee from 2001 to 2002 and again from 2005 to 2008, Mr Winsley has participated in many of the Association’s committees and task forces throughout the years. These include the Task Force on Importation Enforcement, Task Force on Limited Distribution and Shortage of Medications, Task Force on Privacy, and Task Force on Model Guidelines for Formulary Development.

Mr Winsley is also a member of the State Alliance for e-Health’s Health Care Practice Task Force for the National Governor’s Association in 2007, he served as vice president from 1982 to 1983 and president from 1983 to 1984 of the Akron Area Society of Hospital Pharmacists, and he was an active member of the Ohio Society of Health-System Pharmacists, serving as treasurer from 1985-1988. He is also a member of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists. In 1999, Mr Winsley was honored with the Distinguished Alumni Award from The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy.

A graduate of The Ohio State University, Mr Winsley earned his bachelor of science degree in pharmacy and his master of science degree in hospital pharmacy administration.
