William T. Winsley, MS, RPh, Assumes Chair of NABP 2011-2012 Executive Committee, Receives President's Award
William T. Winsley, MS, RPh, immediate past president of the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy® (NABP®), assumed the office of chairperson of the Association’s 2011-2012 Executive Committee during the Final Business Session of the NABP 107th Annual Meeting, held May 21-24, 2011, in San Antonio, TX. Mr Winsley served one-year terms as the Association’s president, president-elect, and treasurer, and four years as an Executive Committee member representing District 4.
During his presidency, Mr Winsley initiated the expansion of the NABP Government Affairs Department in order to offer additional support to boards of pharmacy through customizable services. The expansion allowed Government Affairs to offer boards services such as staff training, assistance with evaluating operations processes, and inspection services. To create new opportunities for discussion, education, and collaborative problem solving among members, Mr Winsley also initiated the NABP Interactive Forums, beginning with the Interactive Member Forum in September 2010. Also, under Mr Winsley’s guidance, the Association developed and implemented the PMP InterconnectTM service which will help states to fight prescription drug abuse and misuse. For his service, NABP bestowed its President’s Award upon Mr Winsley during the Annual Awards Dinner at the Annual Meeting.
Mr Winsley was named executive director of the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy in 1998. Prior to that, he held the positions of assistant executive director, director of internship, and compliance specialist with the Ohio Board. Prior to joining the Board, he was the assistant director of pharmacy at Akron City Hospital, assistant director of pharmacy at the West Virginia University Medical Center, an instructor at the West Virginia University College of Pharmacy, and a supervisor of drug distribution at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, OH.
In addition to serving as a member and officer of the NABP Executive Committee, Mr Winsley has participated in many of the Association’s committees and task forces throughout the years. These include the Task Force on Importation Enforcement, Task Force on Limited Distribution and Shortage of Medications, Task Force on Privacy, and Task Force on Model Guidelines for Formulary Development.
Mr Winsley was also a member of the State Alliance for e-Health’s Health Care Practice Task Force for the National Governor’s Association in 2007, and he has served in leadership positions in the Akron Area Society of Hospital Pharmacists and the Ohio Society of Health-System Pharmacists. In 1999, Mr Winsley was honored with the Distinguished Alumni Award from The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy.
Through Mr Winsley’s leadership and support, NABP has successfully implemented several new services and programs that will support the boards of pharmacy as they perform the vital work of regulating pharmacy practice and protecting the public health.
A graduate of The Ohio State University, Mr Winsley earned his bachelor of science degree in pharmacy and his master of science degree in hospital pharmacy administration.
