Washington News: No. 1079 Board to Launch National Precursor Log Exchange - Tracking Sales of Meth Precursors
Originally published in the October 2011 Washington Board of Pharmacy Newsletter
Washington has become one of 18 states to implement the National Precursor Log Exchange (NPLEx) electronic tracking system to stop the production of methamphetamine. The Washington State Board of Pharmacy will begin enforcing the rules implementing the electronic tracking and monitoring system on October 15, 2011. All pharmacies, shopkeepers, and itinerant vendors that sell nonprescription medications containing pseudoephedrine, ephedrine, and phenyloproanolamine must enter sales transactions into the NPLEx system at the time of purchase.
The Board held NPLEx training opportunities at various locations throughout the state and by Webinar during the month of September. In addition, interactive video training is available within the NPLEx Web portal application. You can reach Appriss, the technology provider, at WANPLEx@appriss.com about questions on accessing NPLEx and point of sale integration. Visit the Board’s Web page at www.doh.wa.gov/hsqa/professions/Pharmacy/NPLEx.htm for more information on reporting requirements, and on steps to request an exemption. Contact the Board at wsbop@doh.wa.gov if you are interested in Webinar training on the use of NPLEx.
