Voluntary Recall of Healthy People Co Dietary Supplements Expanded

Topics: Federal regulations and Over the counter

Healthy People Co expanded a voluntary nationwide recall of dietary supplements sold under certain brand names for products bought on or before October 25, 2011, indicates a press release on the FDA Web site. Healthy People Co initiated a voluntary recall on February 02, 2012, because FDA lab analysis confirmed the presence of sibutramine and tadalafil in certain products, making the products unapproved new drugs. As specified in the press release, sibutramine is an FDA-approved drug as an appetite suppressant for the treatment of obesity, making dietary supplements: Mince Belle, Everlax, Ever Slim, Ever Slim Shake Mix Dietary Supplement Strawberry, and Ever Slim Shake Mix Dietary Supplement Chocolate unapproved drugs. Tadalafil is an FDA-approved drug for the treatment of male erectile dysfunction, making Perfect Men Dietary Supplement and Acai-man Mangosteen Herbal Drink Dietary Supplement unapproved drugs. FDA advises that this poses a threat to consumers because tadalafil may interact with nitrates found in some prescription drugs such as nitroglycerin and may lower blood pressure to dangerous levels. Consumers with diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or heart disease often take nitrates. Healthy People Co advises its distributors and customers in possession of the brand names listed above, to return any unused product and instructions are included in the press release.
