Virginia Deploys NABP PMP InterConnect
The Virginia prescription monitoring program (PMP) has gone live with the NABP PMP InterConnectTM, and pilot users now have the ability to request and share program data with PMPs in Ohio and Indiana. NABP’s PMP InterConnect facilitates the sharing of data between state PMPs, a key element for early detection, intervention, and prevention of substance abuse and diversion of controlled substances. Since August 2011, authorized users of the Ohio Automated Rx Reporting System (OARRS), the Ohio PMP, have had the ability to access program data from Indiana’s PMP, INSPECT, via the NABP InterConnect, and Indiana is continuing its pilot of the system that will allow its authorized users access to OARRS data. Indiana expects to begin exchanging data through the NABP InterConnect on a statewide basis soon.
In addition, PMPs in Arizona, Connecticut, Kansas, Mississippi, North Dakota, South Carolina, and West Virginia have signed memorandums of understanding as the first step in participating in the NABP InterConnect. NABP will cover the NABP InterConnect annual participation fees for all participating states for at least five years, and it is the Association’s goal that states will never have to pay annual participation fees to participate. In addition, NABP will cover all costs associated with the development and ongoing operation of NABP InterConnect. More information about the NABP PMP InterConnect is in the Government Affairs section of the NABP Web site.
