Vermont News: Tamper Resistant Prescription Pads
Published in the September 2007 Vermont Board of Pharmacy Newsletter
The Board discussed 26 VSA §2032 (5) regarding developing criteria for tamper-resistant prescription pads. Attorney Larry Novins, Board legal counsel, reported that the federal law requires it as of October 1 for Medicaid patients. Vermont’s requirement would pertain to all prescrip¬tions. The Board agreed it best to invite prescribers and other interested persons to an upcoming meeting to discuss this issue. The Board will look into a local program already in place, which could be used as an example. Other states will be polled as well to determine steps they have taken to become compliant with this mandate. It was reported that the National Association of Chain Drug Stores wrote a letter to the Center for Medicaid and State Operations in Washington, DC, asking that implementation be delayed. The Board will monitor this matter and keep licensees apprised of this requirement.
