Vermont News: Pharmacy Closings Without Notice

Topics: Pharmacies

Published in the September 2007 Vermont Board of Pharmacy Newsletter

The Board is very concerned that pharmacies are not adhering to posted “open” hours and closing down without notice due to staffing shortages. This is a matter of public safety and welfare, which the Board takes very seriously. Pharmacies must adhere to the hours posted for their business, and those hours of operation must be on file with the Board. If a pharmacy does not have staffing to cover those hours, the hours of operation must be changed to reflect coverage. Pharmacist managers must notify the Board immediately if the pharmacy is closed due to staffing issues. (See Part C, Pharmaceutical Care, Section 2. Signs and Names [2.3] “The drug outlet shall display pharmacy business hours and the name of the pharmacist on duty in a conspicuous manner visible to the public.”)
