Topics: Continuing education and Resolutions

Resolution No. 97-3-01
Title: Uniform Definition of “Live” Continuing Education
Action: Passed

Whereas, a number of state boards of pharmacy require that pharmacists, as a condition of relicensure, participate in “live programs” for continuing education; and

Whereas, those definitions of “live programs” in state laws and regulations vary among states; and

Whereas, concerns have been raised by boards of pharmacy as to whether interactive, computer-based programs that facilitate real-time communication between participants and faculty can be defined as “live programs;” and

Whereas, this difference in interpretation of what constitutes “live programs” for continuing education is causing confusion among continuing education providers and participants;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that NABP work with the state boards of pharmacy to accept and adopt the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education (ACPE) definition of “live programs” (see attached) as presented in ACPE’s Continuing Education Provider Approval Program, Criteria for Quality and Interpretive Guidelines.
