Three Indicted For Diversion of Prescription Drugs

Topics: Diversion

Three individuals in Florida have been indicted on charges that included the distribution of prescription drugs without a license, according to a United States Attorney’s Office Southern District of Florida press release. The charges allege that the three defendants, who are not licensed to distribute prescription drugs, purchased prescription drugs from unlicensed sources and shipped the drugs to a wholesale distributor in Texas. The distributor then shipped the drugs to the defendants’ customers, pharmacies from which they had solicited and accepted orders, as if the drugs were new. At least some of the drugs purchased by the defendants were obtained through street diversion, in which individuals fill prescriptions under a health insurance plan and sell the drugs to diverters for less than the wholesale price.
