Third CDC Get Smart About Antibiotics Week

The third national Get Smart About Antibiotics Week will be observed November 14-20, 2011, and is coordinated by CDC. The week-long observance promotes awareness of the dangers of antibiotic resistance and the importance of appropriate antibiotic use. The campaign is aimed toward both the general public and health care providers. CDC coordinates the work of the agency’s "Get Smart: Know When Antibiotics Work" campaign with state-based appropriate antibiotic use campaigns, non-profit partners, and for-profit partners. Promotional materials and additional resources are posted on the CDC Web site in the section, Get Smart: Know When Antibiotics Work. Three new consumer podcasts about the dangers of antibiotic overuse are posted on the CDC site, and updated fact sheets are also available. The 2011 observance also marks the second year of an international collaboration, and coincides with European Antibiotic Awareness Day and an awareness week in Canada.
