Whereas, electronic communications are rapidly emerging as an important method of transmitting prescription orders; and

Whereas, security and accuracy in ordering medications are primary concerns of the boards of pharmacy in protecting the public health and safety; and

Whereas, boards of pharmacy need guidance in this important area;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that NABP establish a task force to consider the necessary elements in electronic prescribing including appropriate provisions for electronic signatures and to facilitate incorporation of these elements into the NABP Model State Pharmacy Act and Model Rules.
