Topics: Resolutions

Resolution Number: 101-2-05
Title: Sterile Compounding and the NABP Model State Pharmacy Act and Model Rules
Action: Passed

Whereas, the practice of pharmacy as it pertains to compounding has developed and evolved over time; and

Whereas, the United States Pharmacopeia’s (USP) issuance of standards set forth under USP Tests and Assays Chapter 797, Pharmaceutical Compounding–Sterile Preparations, has significant implications for compounding activity in institutional, community, and nuclear practice settings; and

Whereas, it is important that the compounding of products for patients continue to be supported and improved by such standards;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that NABP review and revise, where appropriate, its Model Rules for Sterile Pharmaceuticals to reflect applicable standards set forth in USP Chapter 797 in all practice settings that will protect both the public health, as well as the safety of the pharmacist and pharmacy technician involved in the compounding of sterile pharmaceuticals.
