State Senate Passes Louisiana Bill to Allow Pharmacists to Provide More Immunizations
A bill being considered by the Louisiana legislature would allow pharmacists to provide additional immunizations to patients 18 years of age and older. Current Louisiana law allows pharmacists to administer the influenza vaccination to patients seven years of age or older. The new law would also allow pharmacists to administer the pneumococcal, zoster, tetanus, and diphtheria vaccines to patients at least 18 years of age. The bill was approved by the state’s Senate on May 18, 2011, and is being reviewed by a House committee. The full text of the bill, a summary, and updates on the status are available on the Web site of the Louisiana legislature by searching for SB 60.
