Richard K. "Mick" Markuson, RPh, Assumes Chairmanship of NABP Executive Committee following 98th Annual Meeting

Richard K. "Mick" Markuson, RPh, immediate past president of the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy® (NABP®) assumed his position as chairman of the Association's Executive Committee at the conclusion of NABP's 98th Annual Meeting, May 18-22, in Phoenix, Ariz. Mr Markuson, executive director of the Idaho State Board of Pharmacy since 1988, previously served as the Association's president-elect and three years as a member of the Executive Committee.

During his year as president, Mr Markuson strived to advance NABP's mission in assisting the state boards of pharmacy with their efforts to protect the public health and welfare. During his term, NABP signed a memorandum of understanding with Canada's National Association of Pharmacy Regulatory Authorities for the licensing of NABP's Verified Internet Pharmacy Practice Sites Program; saw Florida begin its participation in the Electronic Licensure Transfer Program; celebrated the 25th anniversary of the North American Pharmacist Licensure Examination; and joined the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) as a full partner and member of the PTCB Board of Governors. NABP's joint partnership with the PTCB is part of NABP's efforts to expand pharmacy practice and assure that qualified pharmacy technicians are available to assist pharmacists in pharmacies throughout the United States.

Throughout his association with NABP, Mr Markuson has always championed those issues that truly affect the public health and welfare. His involvement with NABP began in 1990, when he served on NABP's Advisory Committee on Pharmacy Practice. He has participated on many NABP committees, and has chaired the Committee on Law Enforcement/Legislation and the Committee on Constitution and Bylaws.

In addition to his responsibilities with the Idaho Board of Pharmacy, Mr Markuson is an adjunct professor of pharmacy law at Idaho State University. He is also a member of the Idaho State Pharmaceutical Association and an honorary lifetime member of the Idaho Society of Health System Pharmacists.
