Richard A. Palombo, RPh, Elected to Three-year Member Term on Executive Committee at NABP's 100th Annual Meeting
Richard A. Palombo, RPh, from District II was elected to a three-year member term on the Executive Committee of the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy® (NABP®) during the Association's 100th Annual Meeting and Centennial Celebration, April 24-27, 2004, in Chicago, IL.
As a former president and current member of the New Jersey Board of Pharmacy, Mr Palombo has been responsible for providing leadership and coordination of tasks for Board activities relating to the practice of pharmacy. He also served as liaison to the New Jersey State Legislature and liaison to the Enforcement and Inspections Bureau, and was the committee chair for Continuous Quality Improvement.
Mr Palombo has been an integral member of NABP since 2000, serving as chair of the Committee on Law Enforcement/Legislation. He has also been a member of such task forces as the Task Force on Privacy and the Task Force to Examine the Quality and Standards of Internship Requirements.
Currently a director with the Pharmacy Professional Practice Group and Compliance coordinator for Medco Health Solutions, Inc, Mr Palombo is responsible for assessing and monitoring the efficacy and proficiency of Compliance Program. In this role he develops self-assessment tools to ensure compliance with Medco's internal SOPs as well as all federal, state, and local statutes and regulations relating to patient safety and care. He is also responsible for the creation of training modules for pharmacists to ensure consistent quality of care to patients. Before he joined Medco, he was the coordinator for Regulatory and Government Affairs and national compliance operations supervisor for NCS Healthcare. In this position, he conducted regulatory audits of long-term care pharmacies and Drug Enforcement Administration accountability of controlled substance medications, among other duties.
In addition to his pharmacy services, Mr Palombo also serves as mayor of Upper Township, NJ. Before becoming mayor in 1999, he served as councilman of Upper Township from 1997-1999. He also served on several city boards including personnel contracts, zoning and planning, and information systems and technology. He also served as emergency management public safety coordinator and county public health coordinator.
Mr Palombo is a member of many professional organizations including the American Pharmacists Association; the New Jersey Pharmacist's Association, which bestowed upon him the Award of Appreciation for Outstanding Contribution to the Profession of Pharmacy in 2001; the South Jersey Pharmacist Association; the American Society for Pharmacy Law; and the New Jersey Conference of Mayors. Mr Palombo holds a bachelor of science degree in pharmacy from Temple University College of Pharmacy in Philadelphia, PA.
