Rhode Island Bill Would Authorize Pharmacists to Vaccinate Children

Topics: Vaccinations

The Rhode Island Senate passed a bill that would authorize pharmacists to administer vaccinations to children between the ages of nine and 18. As stated in a Rhode Island news release, pharmacists in the state are currently allowed to immunize adults, and the new bill would allow pharmacists to vaccinate children with parental consent, provided the pharmacist has completed required training. In addition, pharmacies will be required to report to the Department of Health all immunizations administered to individuals ages nine and older. The bill is with the state’s House for consideration.
