Reminder: First-Ever DEA Nationwide Prescription Drug Take-Back Event Takes Place Saturday
On Saturday, September 25, 2010, Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), in partnership with local government, community, public health, and law enforcement agencies, will hold the first-ever nationwide prescription drug take-back day. To help prevent increased rates of prescription drug abuse and diversion, DEA will provide this safe and anonymous way for the public to rid their medicine cabinets of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs. Collection sites across the country will be open from 10 AM to 2 PM on September 25, 2010, and may be located using the search system on the DEA Web site.
NABP is pleased to participate in this initiative and to serve as a valued resource for DEA in its endeavor to address a vital public safety and pubic health issue. Other participants in this initiative include the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy; the Partnership for a Drug-Free America; the International Association of Chiefs of Police; the National Association of Attorneys General; the Federation of State Medical Boards; and the National District Attorneys Association. More information on this event is available in a DEA press release (PDF).
