Title: Regulatory and Legislative Initiatives to Protect the Public from Counterfeit and Diverted Drugs
Action: Passed

Whereas, counterfeit and diverted drugs continue to pose a significant threat to the protection of the public health; and

Whereas, unscrupulous, as well as unsuspecting, wholesale distributors operating in the secondary market often serve as an entry point for the introduction of counterfeit and diverted drugs into the United States drug distribution system; and

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that NABP continue to serve as a resource to the boards of pharmacy and other regulatory agencies that are revising rules and regulations and developing legislation to strengthen the licensure requirements for wholesale distributors through inspections, pedigrees, surety bonds, criminal background checks, increased penalties and fines, and utilization of NABP’s Verified-Accredited Wholesale Distributors program;

THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that NABP offer educational opportunities addressing appropriate wholesale distributor inspection procedures to board of pharmacy staff.
