Pharmacies in Indiana Adopt PSE-by-prescription-only Policies

Topics: Pseudoephedrine

Four pharmacies in Terre Haute, IN, have adopted policies requiring that patients present prescriptions in order to purchase products containing pseudoephedrine (PSE) or ephedrine. The result of a summit involving police agencies and business owners, local Kmart, Wal-Mart, JR Pharmacy, and Terre Haute Prescription Shop pharmacies adopted the policies to assist in police efforts to fight methamphetamine production as reported in the Indiana-TribStar. Three additional pharmacies are seeking corporate approval to implement prescription-only policies for PSE products. Current Indiana law tracks PSE product sales, and places a weekly limit on the amount a patient may purchase.
