Panelists Added to Public Policy Session at NABP's 100th Annual Meeting and Centennial Celebration
The National Association of Boards of Pharmacy® (NABP®) is pleased to announce that three additional panelists have been added to its joint continuing education session entitled "Drug Importation: A Public Policy Discussion," to be held on Monday, April 26, 2004 from 8:30 to 10:30 am during NABP's 100th Annual Meeting and Centennial Celebration at The Fairmont Chicago in Chicago, IL.
Illinois State Senator Chris Lauzen (R), Ram Kamath, and Scott McKibbin will join Michael J. Albano, Joesph L. Bast, Ronald Guse, and Rebecca H. Deschamps
, who will discuss the impact of importation on public policy. Senator Chris Lauzen has represented the 25th District since 1992. For the past two years Senator Lauzen has been an active supporter of the Illinois Health Alliance (IHA), which helps Illinois residents find low-cost medications. IHA's Web site provides information to nine different Illinois programs that provide medications free of charge or at a significantly reduced price as well as Canadian pharmacies. Senator Lauzen's two legislative priorities are cutting waste in government spending and creating a business climate in Illinois where the private sector can maintain and create more jobs paying higher wages. He holds a bachelor of science degree in management and English from Duke University and a master's degree in business administration from Harvard Business School.Ram Kamath, special advocate for prescription drugs for the state of Illinois, has more than 20 years of experience as a pharmacist and manager in a variety of settings including retail, hospital, manufacturing, quality control, pharmacy administration, and managed care. Kamath received his undergraduate degree from College of Pharmacy, Manipal, India and his doctor of pharmacy degree from Midwestern University in Downers Grove, IL.
Also a special advocate for prescription drugs for Illinois, Scott McKibbin has more than 15 years experience in consulting to large public entities, employers, and foundations on a variety of health care issues. As a special advocate for prescription drugs, McKibbin oversees the $2.1 billion annual prescription drug-spending for the state of Illinois. Before assuming the special advocate position, McKibbin served as the senior consultant for Health Management Associates; benefits consultant for The Segal Company; and vice president of the Hay Group. He holds a bachelor's degree from California State University — Long Beach.
