Oregon Board of Pharmacy Implements New Fingerprint Requirements

Effective February 1, 2011, the Oregon State Board of Pharmacy will require all new applicants (pharmacists, interns, pharmacy technicians, and certified pharmacy technicians) to submit a fingerprint card for a Federal Bureau of Investigation National Background Check. This procedure implements Board rules, establishing the criteria for review, and adopted in February 2008 under Oregon state law. When the Oregon Board receives an application, a fingerprint packet with instructions will be mailed to the applicant. Applicants will be required to pay the actual costs charged by the Oregon State Police, as well as any fees charged by the facility taking fingerprints. This new procedure will increase the time it takes to process a complete application and issue a license. More information is available in the February 2011 Oregon State Board of Pharmacy Newsletter (PDF).
