Oklahoma Legislation Would Bring PBMs Under Board of Pharmacy Regulation

Topics: Patient safety and Patient counseling

Aimed to protect public health, a bill introduced in the Oklahoma Legislature would bring pharmacy benefit managers under the regulation of the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy. State representative David Derby, the bill’s sponsor, stated that the “bill is about compliance and safety” and noted that provisions would help to ensure that drugs are stored properly en route to the patient and that pharmacist counseling would be available, reports the Insurance Journal. The bill (HB 2100) was introduced to the Oklahoma House on January 17, 2013, and has been referred to the Committee on Public Health.
