Ohio Deploys NABP PMP InterConnect Statewide, Arizona Signs On to Participate

Topics: Prescription monitoring program

The Ohio Automated Rx Reporting System (OARRS) is the first prescription monitoring program (PMP) to exchange program data across state lines on a statewide basis using the NABP PMP InterConnectTM. Effective Tuesday, OARRS began allowing its pharmacist and prescriber users throughout Ohio to access PMP data from Indiana’s INSPECT. Indiana also expects to conclude its pilot of the system and begin exchanging data on a statewide basis very soon, allowing all of its pharmacist and prescriber users to access Ohio PMP data.

In other program news, the Arizona PMP has entered into an agreement with NABP to participate in the NABP InterConnect. NABP’s PMP InterConnect facilitates the sharing of data between state PMPs, a key element for early detection, intervention, and prevention of substance abuse and diversion of controlled substances. Arizona joins the Connecticut, Indiana, Kansas, Mississippi, North Dakota, Ohio, South Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia PMPs, which have already signed Memorandums of Understanding as the first step in participating in the NABP InterConnect.

NABP will cover the NABP InterConnect annual participation fees for all participating states for at least five years, and it is the Association’s goal that states will never have to pay annual participation fees to participate. In addition, NABP will cover all costs associated with the development and ongoing operation of NABP InterConnect. More information about the NABP PMP InterConnect is available in an NABP press release.
