Notifying the NSC of Accreditation Status

Topics: Dmepos

DMEPOS suppliers that become accredited after September 1, 2009, should complete section 2G of the CMS 855S enrollment form to notify the National Supplier Clearinghouse (NSC) of their accreditation information.

Suppliers accredited before August 31, 2009, are not required to submit accreditation to the NSC; NABP, as your accrediting organization, provided that information to the NSC.

Accreditation Extension and Your Medicare Billing Number
The NSC requires that DMEPOS suppliers update their Medicare Enrollment Application (CMS 855S) concurrent with DMEPOS accreditation or risk revocation of the Medicare billing number.

Accreditation applicants concerned that they will not be accredited by the extended deadline (January 1, 2010) may wish to voluntarily terminate their NSC or Medicare billing number rather than risk revocation. See page 4 of the CMS 855S enrollment form to voluntarily terminate your enrollment in the Medicare program. For more information on supplier enrollment visit the National Supplier Clearinghouse Web site or contact NSC’s customer service at 1-866/238-9652.

Completed or updated CMS 855S enrollment forms should be mailed to the NSC:

Withdrawing Voluntary Termination of Medicare Billing Number
If your pharmacy submitted a request to voluntarily terminate its Medicare billing number in anticipation of the September 30, 2009 accreditation deadline, that request can be withdrawn in light of the January 1, 2010 deadline extension, and the pharmacy can continue billing DMEPOS items to Medicare Part B.

To withdraw a request to voluntarily terminate your Medicare billing number, submit a letter to the NSC regarding that request. This letter must be signed by the authorized official and must be received by October 23, 2009.
