New Mexico News: Regulation Changes

Published in the June 2010 New Mexico Board of Pharmacy Newsletter

During the March 15-16, 2010 Board meeting, Regulation 16.19.22 NMAC concerning support personnel and pharmacy technicians was amended. To view this regulation in its entirety, please go to the Board’s Web site or contact the Board office. Some of the changes include the following:

  • Support personnel such as clerks have restricted duties. They may not be involved in the direct processing and/or filling of prescriptions, nor may they stock prescription drugs because these activities are restricted to pharmacists, pharmacy interns, and pharmacy technicians.
  • Pharmacy technicians must now apply to the Board for registration before they may perform any technician duties.
  • Pharmacy technicians must complete the certification process within one year of the original application. No extensions are permitted.
