New Hampshire Pharmacists' Authorization to Immunize Expanded
Pharmacists in New Hampshire are now authorized to administer pneumococcal and varicella zoster vaccines to individuals 18 years of age or older with the passage of Senate Bill 93. Effective as of August 26, 2011, the law also changed the qualifications for New Hampshire pharmacists to administer vaccines, including the influenza vaccine. As explained on the New Hampshire Board of Pharmacy’s Web site, all qualified licensed New Hampshire pharmacists may submit an application to administer influenza, as well as pneumococcal and varicella zoster vaccines to individuals 18 years of age or older. “Prior to this, only pharmacists with a PharmD degree or 3+ years of licensure were authorized to administer influenza vaccines.” The pharmacist must have completed approved training for the administration of vaccines in order to apply for authorization to administer vaccines.
