New Clearinghouse Reporting Tool to Further Assist State Boards of Pharmacy

Topics: Disciplinary action

As of February 1, 2011, state boards of pharmacy can utilize a new NABP Clearinghouse reporting tool to report disciplinary actions on health care entities and transmit data to the federal databanks, assisting boards in maintaining compliance with National Practitioner Data Bank and Healthcare Integrity and Protection Data Bank (HIPDB) reporting requirements. Additionally, the secure, user-friendly interface cuts down on the time boards must spend inputting disciplinary action data by providing an organized electronic form to input data specifically required by HIPDB.

NPDB final rule (75 FR 4656, January 28, 2010) implemented certain requirements under Section 1921 of the Social Security Act (42 USC §1396r-2) and, effective on March 1, 2010, requires state licensing authorities to maintain a system for reporting to the federal government the state’s negative or adverse actions against a health care practitioner or entity as result of a formal proceeding, as well as negative actions or findings taken by peer review organizations or private accreditation entities against health care practitioners or entities. Instructions for authorizing NABP as a state board’s reporting agent are in the Members section of the NABP Web site.
