New Challenges in a Changed World is the Focus ofNABP's 98th Annual Meeting

The pharmacy profession and the public face new challenges in a changing world, and the state boards of pharmacy need new tools and technological systems to address them. The National Association of Boards of Pharmacy's (NABP) 98th Annual Meeting, entitled "New Challenges in a Changed World," May 18-22, 2002, at the Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs Resort in Phoenix, Ariz, is designed to help board of pharmacy executive officers, members, and compliance staff continue to protect the public health through the regulation of pharmacy practice.

The Annual Meeting features the annual business sessions of the Association, continuing education (CE) programs, and such Annual Meeting events as the Annual Awards Dinner. Meeting participants have the option to choose from the CE sessions in three programming tracks targeting board of pharmacy executive officers and members, compliance staff, and pharmacy practice issues.

The CE programs are "Emerging Technologies for Enhanced Patient Care," "Compounding Regulation Update," "Best Practices for Seizing Electronic Evidence," "Advances in Telepharmacy," "Diabetes Seminar Parts I and II," and a session entitled "HIPAA Update." Attendees can earn up to five hours of American Council of Pharmaceutical Education (ACPE)-approved CE credit from NABP.

The meeting's four business sessions will address such Association issues as the election of officers and members to the open positions on the Executive Committee and the disposition of resolutions proposed by the districts and member boards of NABP.

Special programs include the Keynote Address, which will be delivered by Erik Weihenmayer, the first blind mountain climber to scale Mt Everest; the Annual Meeting Presentation Area, which will be open Saturday, May 18, from 1 - 5 PM and Sunday, May 19, from 8 AM - noon; the Public Board Member Session; and the New Member Seminar.

Other special events include the President's Welcoming Reception honoring NABP President Richard K. "Mick" Markuson and his wife, Ruth, the NABP/USP Breakfast, and the Association's Annual Awards Dinner. The awards presented during this banquet will include NABP's Lester E. Hosto Distinguished Service Award, Fred T. Mahaffey Award, and Henry Cade Award. Dancing will follow the awards ceremony.
