Nevada Board Makes Bath Salt Chemicals Illegal Through Emergency Order
The Nevada State Board of Pharmacy approved an emergency order making “bath salt” chemicals Schedule I controlled substances. As reported by the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the emergency order makes it illegal to produce, sell, purchase, or consume products containing the bath salt chemicals. Metropolitan Police Department Detective Bruce Gentner, head of the Nevada Narcotics Officers Association, told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that Las Vegas, NV, has seen a 100% increase in the number of bath salt producers in the area. A draft of a proposed regulation to permanently place bath salt chemicals in Schedule I was published November 17, 2011, and was scheduled for public comment at the Board’s January 19, 2012 meeting.
