NABP's Executive Committee Names Harold Sparr, RPh, Honorary President for 2002-2003

Each year the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy ® (NABP®) Executive Committee selects an individual to serve as its honorary president for the coming year. Massachusetts Board of Registration in Pharmacy president, Harold B. Sparr, RPh, has been given this privilege for the year 2002-2003.

Mr Sparr's long and distinguished career in pharmacy exemplifies the spirit of public service that is essential to the mission of NABP and its member boards of pharmacy. Prior to retiring from practice in 2000, Mr Sparr worked 40 years as an educator and a pharmacist in both hospital and community settings. For almost half of those years, he has been a member of the Massachusetts Board, and since 1995 he has served as the Board's president.

Throughout the years, Mr Sparr has been actively involved in many NABP committees and task forces. He has been a member of the Advisory Committee on Examinations since 1996 and chaired the Committee from 1999 to 2000. In addition, he served on the Committee on Resolutions for two years before chairing that group in 2000 and again in 2002. Mr Sparr has also served as a member of the Committee on Law Enforcement and Legislation, the Task Force on Pharmacy Technician Regulations, and the Bureau of Voluntary Compliance Advisory Committee.

His numerous achievements have not gone unrecognized. Among his many honors are the NABP Lester E. Hosto Distinguished Service Award and the Wyeth-Ayerst Bowl of Hygeia from the Massachusetts Pharmacists Association.
