NABP's 99th Annual Meeting Optional Programming Offers Attendees Educational and Thought-provoking Sessions
Attendees of the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy®'s (NABP®) 99th Annual Meeting, May 3-7, 2003, held at the Philadelphia Marriott Hotel in Philadelphia, PA, will have the opportunity to participate in several optional programming sessions during the meeting.
The first optional events are the Public Board Member Session and the New Member Seminar, which will both be held on Saturday, May 3. First, the Public Board Member Session from 1 to 2:30 PM will discuss the function of public and consumer members on the state boards. Current issues demanding their consideration and support available through NABP will also be discussed. Also on Saturday, from 2:30 to 4:30 PM, the New Member Seminar will offer an in-depth look at the Association's programs to those board members who have recently been appointed to a board of pharmacy or for those attending their first NABP Annual Meeting. This session will also discuss the Association's continuing education programs, special events, issues of confidentiality and conflict of interest that may confront board members, and the parliamentary procedures that will be followed during the meeting's business sessions. The New Member Seminar is led by members of the NABP Executive Committee, staff, and counsel.
The three remaining optional programs, American Council on Pharmaceutical Education (ACPE) Discussion Update on Accreditation Equivalency, the Meet the Candidates Session, and the Disease State Management (DSM) Examination Administration, will be offered on Monday, May 5. Held from 1:30 to 2:30 PM, an ACPE representative will lead a discussion on the standards of accreditation equivalency. The recent accreditation of the College of Pharmacy at Lebanon American University (LAU) and ACPE's recognition of the accreditation decisions of the Canadian Council for Accreditation of Pharmacy Programs (CCAPP) with respect to professional programs leading to a baccalaureate degree in pharmacy will be considered. New to this year's programming, the second program held on Monday, May 5, the Meet the Candidates Session, will give meeting attendees the opportunity to meet the Executive Committee candidates and converse with and learn more about them before the election. The third program on Monday, May 5, held from 1:30 to 5 PM will give pharmacists attending the Annual Meeting the opportunity to sit for one of the four DSM examinations. More than 1,100 pharmacists from across the country have passed one of the DSM exams in anticoagulation, asthma, diabetes, or dyslipidemia and earned a credential from the National Institute for Standards in Pharmacist Credentialing (NISPC). During the meeting on Monday afternoon, NABP will offer all four examinations in a paper-and-pencil format. The cost of a DSM examination and credential is $250 per examination. Only one examination may be selected and advance registration is required.
