NABP’s Executive Committee Names Charles R. Young, RPh, CFE, 2007 Honorary President

Each year the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy® (NABP®) Executive Committee selects an individual to serve as its honorary president for the coming year. NABP is pleased to announce that Charles R. “Chuck” Young, RPh, CFE, has been awarded this honor for 2007. In recognition of his commitment to the Association’s mission and goals, NABP named Mr Young as its honorary president for his service to the public health, for his dedication to NABP and the boards of pharmacy, and for diligence and commitment to the pharmacy profession and patient care.

Immensely involved in the Association, after serving a three-year member term on the NABP Executive Committee, Mr Young served a one-year term as NABP Treasurer. In addition, he participated in many committees and task forces including the Committee on Law Enforcement/Legislation in 2003 and 2005; the Committee on Constitution and Bylaws in 2001; and the Task Force on Centralized Prescription Filling in 2000. He also served as member of both the Task Force on Collaborative Practice Agreements and Task Force on Mail Delivery of Prescriptions in 1998. In addition, Mr Young was appointed to serve a two-year term as member of the Multistate Pharmacy Jurisprudence Examination® Review Committee in 1999.

Formerly the enforcement agent of the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Pharmacy for 10 years, and executive director for almost 10 years, Mr Young is currently the pharmacy manager, professional affairs, Office of Clinical Affairs, University of Massachusetts Medical School, Massachusetts Health Offices. During his tenure at the Massachusetts Board, Mr Young assisted the Board in achieving many goals to enhance patient safety and regulate for outcomes, including the development of 23 Best Practice Recommendations to Promote Optimum Pharmaceutical Care for community pharmacies, promulgation of regulations requiring all Massachusetts pharmacies to have continuous quality improvement programs in place, and implementing the position of continuous quality improvement surveyor.

A recipient of various awards, Mr Young was awarded the President’s Pharmacist of the Year Award by the Massachusetts Pharmacists Association in September 2000 and was commended by the United States Drug Enforcement Administration for outstanding contribution in the field of law enforcement in August 1994. He also received the 2006 Betsy Lehman Patient Safety Award presented by the Betsy Lehman Center for Patient Safety and Medical Error Reduction, as well as the Pride in Performance, an Outstanding Employee Award by the Division of Registration in October 1993 and 1999.
