NABP Re-Elects Lloyd K. Jessen, RPh, JD, to Serve as Member of Executive Committee at 106th Annual Meeting

Lloyd K. Jessen, RPh, JD, was re-elected to serve a second three-year member term, representing District 5, on the Executive Committee of the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy® (NABP®) during the Association’s 106th Annual Meeting in Anaheim, CA.

Mr Jessen has served as the executive director and drug control program administrator of the Iowa Board of Pharmacy since 1990. Prior to accepting this position, Mr Jessen was chief investigator for the Iowa Board of Pharmacy Examiners and a staff attorney for the Iowa Supreme Court. Before entering the legal field, he practiced pharmacy for eight years as a staff pharmacist in both community pharmacy and hospital pharmacy environments.

During his tenure as executive director for the Iowa Board, Mr Jessen has contributed his expertise to numerous Iowa pharmacy task forces, including, most recently, the Iowa Prescription Monitoring Program Advisory Committee, the Iowa Drug Wholesale Advisory Task Force, and the Iowa Pharmacy Technician Working Group. With Mr Jessen as executive director, the Iowa Board also accomplished the tremendous task of reviewing both scientific literature and public comment, in order to recommend to the Iowa legislature that medical marijuana be reclassified as a Schedule II drug.

An active member of NABP, Mr Jessen has served as a member of the Executive Committee since 2006. He has served on numerous NABP task forces and committees, including serving as the Executive Committee liaison to the Committee on Constitution and Bylaws. Prior to his election to the Executive Committee, Mr Jessen was the chair of the 1998-1999 Committee on Law Enforcement/Legislation, and the chair of the 1995-1996 Task Force on Electronic Transmission of Data Between Prescriber and Pharmacist. He has also coordinated several District 5 NABP/American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy meetings.

Mr Jessen is also an active educator in the area of pharmacy and drug law, lecturing at both Drake University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, and University of Iowa College of Pharmacy.

Mr Jessen earned a bachelor of science degree in pharmacy from South Dakota State University College of Pharmacy and a doctor of jurisprudence degree from Drake University Law School.
