NABP Executive Committee Names 2008 Honorary President Charles C. ìCurtî Barr, PharmD, RP

Each year the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy® (NABP®) Executive Committee selects an individual to serve as its honorary president for the coming year. NABP is pleased to announce that Charles C. “Curt” Barr, PharmD, RP, has been awarded this honor for 2008. In recognition of his commitment to the Association’s mission and goals, NABP named Dr Barr as its honorary president for his service to the public health, for his commitment to NABP and the boards of pharmacy, and for diligence and dedication to the practice of pharmacy and patient care.

Dr Barr was an active member of the Nebraska Board of Pharmacy from 1997 to 2007, serving in various positions including secretary, vice chair, and chair. Currently he is an associate professor of pharmacy practice and assistant dean for alumni relations at Creighton University School of Pharmacy and Health Professions. He began teaching at the university in 1974 as an adjunct professor and in 1998 he became an associate professor. He is also the owner/operator of Barr Pharmacy and Blair Medical Supply, Blair, NE.

Dr Barr has contributed immensely to the Association as an active member of the NABP Executive Committee from 2004 to 2006. He has also participated in several NABP committees and task forces including the Committee on Constitution and Bylaws from 2000 to 2001 and from 2005 to 2006, the Advisory Committee on Examinations from 2004 to 2005, the Committee on Resolutions in 2002, the Task Force on Licensing of Pharmacy Benefit Managers in 1999, and the Multistate Pharmacy Jurisprudence Examination® Item-writing Workshop.

In addition, Dr Barr is an active member of numerous professional organizations including the American Pharmacists Association (APhA); the Nebraska Pharmacists Association (NPA); the National Community Pharmacists Association; and APhA Foundation, where he served as president in 2002.

A recipient of various awards and honors, Dr Barr received the NPA Committee Award in 1999, NPA Innovative Pharmacy Practitioner Award in 1995, NPA Bowl of Hygeia in 1993, and Greater Omaha Pharmacist Association Pharmacist of the Year in 1990. In addition, he was named National Preceptor of the Year by the National Community Pharmacists Association in 1994.

Dr Barr earned a doctor of pharmacy degree from the University of Nebraska College of Pharmacy in 1981 and a bachelor of science in pharmacy from Creighton University School of Pharmacy in 1974.
