NABP Elects Karen M. Ryle, MS, RPh, to Serve as Member of Executive Committee at Association's 102nd Annual Meeting
Karen M. Ryle, MS, RPh, was elected to serve a one-year member term, representing District I, on the Executive Committee of the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy® (NABP®;) during the Association's 102nd Annual Meeting, April 8-11, 2006, in San Francisco, CA.
Ms Ryle has been a member of the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Pharmacy for eight years and is serving as immediate past president. During this time she has served as chairperson of the Board's Pharmacy Compounding Committee as well as on the Task Force on Pharmacy Technicians.
Currently, Ms Ryle is the director of Outpatient Pharmacy Services at Massachusetts General Hospital, overseeing all pharmacy operations for three outpatient pharmacies associated with the hospital, and she is a member of the facility's Medication Evaluation and Safety Administration Committee.
Since she was appointed to the Board, Ms Ryle has been a participant on NABP's committees and task forces including the Task Force to Develop Recommendations to Best Reduce Medication Errors in Community Pharmacy Practice and the Task Force on Telepharmacy and the Implementation of the Medicare Drug Benefit Medication Therapy Management Provisions. She has also served on NABP's Committee on Constitution and Bylaws, the Committee on Law Enforcement/Legislation, and the Advisory Committee on Examinations.
In 2003, Ms Ryle was appointed for a five-year term to the United States Departmentof Homeland Security. During this appointment she serves as a member of the National Pharmacist Response Team, the National Disaster Medical Assistance Team, and in November 2005 was deployed to Plaquemine's Parish, LA, for two weeks in response to Hurricane Katrina.
Ms Ryle earned a bachelor of science degree in pharmacy and a master of science degree in drug regulatory affairs from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.
