Health Policy Expert, FDA Commissioner, DEA Administrator to Speak at NABP Fall Legislative Conference
NABP welcomes economist and health policy expert Dan L. Crippen, PhD; Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner Andrew C. von Eschenbach, MD; and Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Administrator Karen P. Tandy, JD, to speak at its Fall Legislative Conference to be held September 16-18, 2007, in Arlington, VA. Dr Crippen, former director of the Congressional Budget Office, will share his expertise on health care issues facing this country during the educational program “111th Congress and the New Administration: What to Expect.” During this program, participants will learn of possible health care issues of interest and concern for the new administration based upon predicted outcomes of the fall 2008 election. Dr von Eschenbach will discuss the current state of FDA as well as future issues of focus for the agency. Ms Tandy will speak about DEA’s activities and important issues related to controlled substances. FDA Advisory Committee to Weigh Safety, Effectiveness of Cough/Cold Medication Use in Children
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Nonprescription Drugs Advisory Committee will meet October 18-19, 2007 to discuss the safety and effectiveness of cough and cold drug product use in children. Questions have been raised about the safety of these products and whether the benefits justify any potential risks from the use of these products in children, especially in children under 2 years of age. In preparation for the meeting, FDA is reviewing safety and efficacy data for the ingredients of these products. The meeting will be open to the public. Four Additional Facilities Awarded VAWD Accreditation
NABP recently accredited four new facilities through its Verified-Accredited Wholesale Distributors® (VAWD®) program, bringing the total number of accredited facilities to 167 as of August 31, 2007. A full listing of VAWD facilities is available under Accreditation Programs on the NABP Web site.

  • Harco, Inc, dba Rite Aid Tuscaloosa Distribution Center provides pharmaceutical, over-the-counter, and general merchandise to approximately 300 company-owned stores in the states of Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Virginia. The company received accreditation for its Tuscaloosa, AL facility.
  • Thrifty Payless, Inc, dba Rite Aid Woodland Distribution Center provides pharmaceutical, OTC, and general merchandise to company-owned stores in the states of California, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. The company received accreditation for its Woodland, CA facility.
  • Guerbet, LLC is licensed in and ships into 41 states. Its customer base includes physicians, hospitals, medical centers, radiologists, cardiologists, correctional centers, pharmacies, and approximately 10 distributors. The company received accreditation for its Bloomington, IN facility.
  • BioPartners In Care, Inc, specializes in infusion products and prescription products indicated for the treatment of patients with chronic diseases. The company received accreditation for its Lenexa, KS facility.
