NABP Executive Director Carmen A. Catizone, MS, RPh, DPh, addressed pedigrees during a panel discussion at the GPhA 2006 Annual Policy Conference, held in Washington, DC on September 19, 2006. Speaking in front of CEOs and government affairs representatives of the generic pharmaceutical companies, Catizone shared the state boards' responsibility in protecting patients from counterfeit drugs and progress made to date in the various states. He also discussed the need for more effective regulation of wholesale drug distributors in states that have not addressed this issue and highlighted NABP's Verified-Accredited Wholesale Distributors® (VAWD™) program.
NABP Provides Legislative Assistance to Kansas Board of Pharmacy
Earlier this year, the Kansas Legislature passed a bill that required the Board of Pharmacy to submit a wholesale drug distributor licensing and pedigree proposal for the legislature's consideration by January 2007. On September 11, the Kansas Board of Pharmacy held a stakeholders meeting to develop language to meet this legislative mandate. Prior to the stakeholders meeting, NABP assisted the Board in developing a comprehensive licensing and pedigree proposal. NABP staff attended the stakeholders meeting on behalf of the Association to provide additional support and assistance to the Board. NABP has assisted many other boards as well in addressing this important patient safety issue. Boards interested in receiving similar legislative and regulatory support should contact Customer Service at custserv@nabp.net.
