NABP Reports 98% of Internet Drug Outlets Out of Compliance with Practice Regulations
In its February 2009 “Internet Drug Outlet Identification Program Progress Report for State and Federal Regulatory Bodies,” NABP reports that 98.31% of the Internet drug outlets it has assessed thus far appear to be operating in conflict with state and federal laws or NABP patient safety and pharmacy practice standards.

The report informs regulators that, as of January 29, NABP has reviewed and verified its assessment of 1,537 sites. Of those sites, 1,511 (98.31%) appear to be out of compliance with program criteria, thereby posing a significant risk to the public health. These sites, 1,362 of which do not require a valid prescription, have been listed as Not Recommended on the NABP Web site.

NABP remains committed to educating patients about the need to exercise caution when buying medicine online and empowering them to make informed choices. More information is available under Internet Pharmacies on the NABP Web site.
