NABP Celebrates a Century of Patient Safety at its 100th Annual Meeting

Patient safety — the number one priority of the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy® (NABP®).

At the Association's birth, its programs and services focused on helping the states organize to create uniform standards for licensure, reciprocity, and competency assessment. Through the maturing years, NABP successfully evolved its competency assessment programs into computer-adaptive examinations and online practice examinations, such as the Pre-NAPLEX™; a practice examination for the North American Pharmacist Licensure Examination™ (NAPLEX®) the Pre-FPGEE™; a practice examination for the Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Equivalency Examination® (FPGEE®) and the upcoming Pharmacist Self-Assessment Mechanism™ (PSAM™). The Association also began its support of the state boards of pharmacy by becoming a focal voice for education and awareness of issues that would affect the state boards of pharmacy, pharmacy practice, and the safety of the public health. NABP accomplished this through its communication vehicles such as the North American Licensure/Multistate Pharmacist Jurisprudence Examaniation® Registration Bulletin, NABP Newsletter, the State Newsletter Program, and media tours and interviews, as well as through the promotion of its Annual Meetings and Fall Conferences.

Throughout the 100 years of NABP's existence, the Association has ensured that these programs and services continue to serve as the backbone of NABP, supporting and assisting the Association's member boards.

NABP's 100th Annual Meeting and Centennial Celebration, entitled "NABP 100 Years: Building a Regulatory Foundation for Patient Safety," April 24-27, 2004, at The Fairmont Chicago in Chicago, IL, will celebrate the Association's 100 year history and discuss the future of patient safety and protecting the public health.
