NABP Awards DMEPOS Accreditation to SUPERVALU PHARMACIES®SUPERVALU Meets CMS Quality Standards for Distributing DMEPOS Products
The National Association of Boards of Pharmacy® (NABP®) is pleased to announce that SUPERVALU PHARMACIES, owned and operated by grocery retailer SUPERVALU INC., was awarded accreditation for its retail store pharmacy services through the Association’s durable medical equipment, prosthetics, orthotics, and supplies (DMEPOS) accreditation program. SUPERVALU® is the second grocery store pharmacy chain to which the Association has awarded this accreditation. The DMEPOS program ensures that suppliers of DMEPOS products meet the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) quality and accreditation standards. SUPERVALU’s decision to seek accreditation for its approximately 920 pharmacies demonstrates that the company is doing its part to ensure that Medicare beneficiaries receive the appropriate products, services, and patient care associated with DMEPOS.
“In each of our SUPERVALU pharmacies, the highest priority is making sure our patients receive superior care and prescription services that meet our high standards for quality,” says Chris Dimos, president, SUPERVALU PHARMACIES. “This accreditation represents a significant accomplishment for SUPERVALU PHARMACIES and underscores our commitment to meeting the pharmacy needs of every patient we serve.”
In November 2006, NABP was named a deemed accrediting organization by CMS for licensed pharmacies that supply DMEPOS products. NABP has more than 100 years of experience in pharmacy regulation, which provides for a thorough understanding of the complexities of pharmacy practice and regulation. The NABP DMEPOS accreditation program is best suited for pharmacies that provide a limited line of non-custom durable medical equipment.
“NABP commends SUPERVALU on its efforts in meeting CMS’s standards and its proactive approach to achieving accreditation,” states NABP President Rich Palombo, RPh. “SUPERVALU is one of the first grocery retailers to achieve accreditation through the NABP DMEPOS program.”
