NABP 2003-2004 Executive Committee Inaugurated at 99th Annual Meeting in Philadelphia
Delegates to the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy® (NABP®) 99th Annual Meeting, held May 3-7, 2003, in Philadelphia, PA, elected individuals to fill the president-elect, treasurer, and open member positions on the Association's 2003-2004 Executive Committee.
At the conclusion of the Annual Meeting, President-elect Donna S. Wall, a member of the Indiana Board of Pharmacy, assumed the position of NABP president, and immediate Past President John A. Fiacco, a member of the New York Board of Pharmacy, became the chairman of the Executive Committee.
The newly elected officers for NABP are president-elect Donna M. Horn, president of the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Pharmacy, and NABP Treasurer Dennis K. McAllister, vice president of the Arizona State Board of Pharmacy. Oren M. Peacock, Jr, treasurer of the Texas State Board of Pharmacy, and Oregon State Board of Pharmacy Executive Director Gary A. Schnabel were each elected to serve a three-year member term on the Executive Committee. Also elected this year was New York Board of Pharmacy Executive Secretary Lawrence H. Mokhiber, who will be serving a one-year term as member-at-large. The other members of the 2003-2004 NABP Executive Committee who are currently fulfilling their terms are Howard C. Anderson, Jr, executive director of the North Dakota State Board of Pharmacy; Michael A. Moné, executive director of the Kentucky Board of Pharmacy; and Charles R. Young, executive director of the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Pharmacy.
Abbreviated biographies for the officers and members of the Association's 2003-2004 Executive Committee follow:
President: Donna S. Wall, PharmD Donna S. Wall, a member of the Indiana Board of Pharmacy (District IV), automatically assumed the position of president after completing her one-year term as president-elect. Dr Wall is the past treasurer of the Association and also served two years as a member of the Executive Committee. She has been an active participant on various Association task forces. She is currently a clinical pharmacist for the adult critical care unit at Indiana University Hospital, Clarian Health Partners. Dr Wall received her BS in pharmacy from Butler University College of Pharmacy and a PharmD from Purdue University School of Pharmacy. At the conclusion of her year as president, she will assume the chairman position of NABP Executive Committee.
Chair: John A. Fiacco, RPh John A. Fiacco, a member of the New York Board of Pharmacy (District II), assumed his position as chairman of the NABP Executive Committee after completing one-year terms as both president and president-elect. Mr Fiacco also served as NABP treasurer and as a member of the Executive Committee. Mr Fiacco has been active on many NABP Committees. He has been a member of the Multistate Pharmacy Jurisprudence Examination? Review Committee since its inception in 1997, and chaired NABP's Committee on Resolutions in 1997 and 1998. A graduate of the Albany School of Pharmacy, Albany, NY, John Fiacco is vice president of Central Fill Pharmacy with Cardinal Health.
President-elect: Donna M. Horn, RPh Donna M. Horn, president of the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Pharmacy (District I), was elected president-elect during the Association's 99th Annual Meeting. Prior to the election, she served a one-year term as NABP treasurer and two three-year terms on the Executive Committee. Ms Horn was the Executive Committee liaison to numerous task forces including the Task Force on Privacy, the Budget and Finance Committee, the Constitution and Bylaws Committee, and the Task Force on the Standardization of Technicians Role and Competencies. She is the manager of regulatory affairs for Brooks Pharmacy. Ms Horn earned her pharmacy degree from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.
Treasurer: Dennis K. McAllister, RPh, FASHP Dennis K. McAllister, vice president of the Arizona State Board of Pharmacy (District VIII), was elected NABP treasurer. Prior to his election he was a member on the NABP Executive Committee. He has also served on NABP's Task Force on Quality of Internship 1999-2000 and NABP's Committee on Law Enforcement Legislation 2000-2001. He is the assistant dean for Pre-Doctoral Affairs at the Midwestern University at the Glendale College of Pharmacy. Mr McAllister earned a bachelor of science degree in pharmacy from the University of Minnesota.
Executive Committee Member: Howard C. Anderson, Jr, RPh Howard C. Anderson, Jr, executive director of the North Dakota State Board of Pharmacy (District V), is serving the third year of a three-year member term on the NABP Executive Committee. An active participant on committees and task forces, he is also the recipient of several awards including the Wyeth Pharmaceuticals' Bowl of Hygeia, the Al Doerr Service Award, and North Dakota Society of Health-System Pharmacists Pharmacist of the Year award. Mr Anderson earned a Bachelor of Science degree in pharmacy from the North Dakota State University College of Pharmacy.
Executive Committee Member-at-Large: Lawrence H. Mokhiber, BS, MS, RPh Lawrence H. Mokhiber, New York Board of Pharmacy executive secretary, was elected to a one-year term as member-at-large. Mr Mokhiber has served as executive secretary for the New York Board (District II) since 1987. He also serves as the executive secretary for the New York State Board of Midwifery. Currently, Mr Mokhiber served as chair of NABP's Advisory Committee on Examinations (ACE), which he has been on since 1992. He also served on the NABPLEX Review Committee. He earned his pharmacy degree from Albany College of Pharmacy in 1971.
Executive Committee Member: Michael Moné, RPh, JD Michael A. Moné, executive director of the Kentucky Board of Pharmacy (District III), is serving the second year of a three-year term as a member of the NABP Executive Committee. Prior to his tenure with the Kentucky Board, he was the assistant attorney general at the Florida Office of the Attorney General and a staff attorney with the US Pharmacopeia. In addition to serving on numerous NABP committees and task forces, Mr Moné served as the speaker of the American Pharmaceutical Association (APhA) House of Delegates. Mr Moné graduated from the University of Florida College of Law and the University of Florida College of Pharmacy.
Executive Committee Member: Oren M. Peacock, Jr, RPh Oren M. Peacock, Jr, treasurer of the Texas State Board of Pharmacy (District VI), was elected to a three-year term as a member of the NABP Executive Committee. In addition to his affiliation with the Texas Board since 1996, he has also served on several NABP task forces and committees, including the Task Force on Centralized Prescription Filling, chaired the Task Force on Evaluation and Modification of NABP's Constitution and Bylaws, and the Committee on Resolutions. Mr Peacock earned his pharmacy degree from the University of Texas and currently serves as vice president of pharmacy relations at the Eckerd Drug Company.
Executive Committee Member: Gary A. Schnabel, RPh, RN Gary A. Schnabel, Oregon State Board of Pharmacy executive director (District VII), was elected to a three-year term as a member of the NABP Executive Committee. Mr Schnabel was named executive director of the Oregon Board in 1999. Prior to that, he was the Board's compliance director from 1994 to 1999. An active member of the Oregon Board, Mr Schnabel has also served on committees for NABP including the Constitution and Bylaws Committee and Nominating Committee. He earned his pharmacy degree from Oregon State University in 1985.
Executive Committee Member: Charles R. Young, MS, RPh, CFE Charles R. Young, executive director of the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Pharmacy (District I), is serving the second year of a three-year term on the Executive Committee. Mr Young began his tenure with the Massachusetts Board in 1985 as a compliance agent. He assumed the position of executive director in 1997. He earned his pharmacy degree from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.
