NABP 100th Annual Meeting Attendees Have the Opportunity to Explore Chicago

Spouses and guests attending NABP's 100th Annual Meeting and Centennial Celebration, "100 Years: Building a Regulatory Foundation for Patient Safety," April 24-27, 2004, at The Fairmont Chicago in Chicago, IL, will have the chance to explore "The Windy City" firsthand through two optional spouse/guest events.

Breathe in some of that cool spring Chicago air and plan on participating in the Fun Run/Walk on Tuesday, April 27, from 6:30 to 7:30 AM. The Fun Run/Walk will follow Chicago's picturesque Lake Shore and begin at the Chicago Yacht Club and continue south around the Museum Campus and circle back to the Yacht Club. Along the way, participants will see Buckingham Fountain, Grant Park, Monroe Harbor, The Field Museum, the Adler Planetarium, the John G. Shedd Aquarium, and Soldier Field. The Fun Run/Walk is approximately 3.3 miles round trip. Shuttles to and from the event will be provided.

No trip to Chicago is complete without viewing the city's famous architecture and landmarks. Annual Meeting spouses and guests will have the opportunity to sample the sights of Chicago in April during the Optional Spouse/Guest Tour: Chicago Highlights Tour also on Tuesday, April 27, from 9 to 11:30 AM. Tour participants will see exciting vistas and historic "musts" including the historic Water Tower Pumping Station, the only surviving structure from The Great Chicago Fire of 1871; Lake Shore Drive, The Magnificient Mile; three of the five tallest buildings in the western hemisphere (The Sears Tower, The John Hancock Building, and the Aon Center); the John G. Shedd Aquarium; Marina City; The Loop; State Street, home of the original Marshall Field's department store; the Gold Coast high rises; and of course, Lake Michigan. The activity ends with a tour of the newly renovated John Hancock Observatory, which features incredible views of the city and the "history wall."

After the tour attendees are encouraged to stay and shop on Michigan Avenue. Attendees will also have the option to be transported to the museum of their choice or brought back to The Fairmont Chicago. Please note that NABP will not provide return transportation from Michigan Avenue or the museums, but taxis are available at any of these locations and public transportation is located nearby. Bus and train fare is $1.75 for one way and an additional 25 cents for a transfer. The cost of the tour is $28. Advance registration is required.
