MPJE Competency Statements Updated; Revisions Effective January 25

A review and analysis of the Multistate Pharmacy Jurisprudence Examination (MPJE) has resulted in revisions to the MPJE competency statements. These revisions include the redistribution of the proportion of items in each content area and the addition of new competencies. The new competency statements take effect on January 25, 2011. Both the new competency statements and the current competency statements (which remain in effect until January 24) are available on the Web site.

Candidates taking the MPJE on or before January 24 should refer to the current competency statements when preparing for the exam. For candidates scheduled to take the MPJE on or after January 25, refer to the new competency statements.

In addition, following a validation study of the MPJE performed earlier this year, NABP conducted a standard setting meeting to determine if any adjustment to the passing standard should be considered. Twenty-three subject matter experts representing the eight NABP districts and several boards of pharmacy participated. A new passing standard was determined to be necessary and will go into effect on January 25 when the updated competencies are implemented.

More information is available in August 2010 and October 2010 NABP Newsletter articles.
