Missouri Man Indicted on Charges of Counterfeit Drug Importation and Sales
Mark Hughes, a resident of St Louis, MO, was indicted by a federal grand jury on several charges related to his alleged importing and selling of counterfeit and misbranded prescription drugs, including fakes of Viagra® and Cialis®. According to a United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) news release, the indictment indicates that Hughes ordered large quantities of drugs from India and China for resale in the US, although he is not licensed to distribute prescription drugs. ICE conducted the investigation, which led to the indictment. Hughes has been charged with smuggling, trafficking in counterfeit goods, selling misbranded drugs, and mail fraud, and if convicted, he could face more than 20 years in prison as well as fines.
