Michigan and New Mexico PMPs Sign On to Participate in NABP PMP InterConnect
The Michigan prescription monitoring program (PMP), known as the Michigan Automated Prescription System, and the New Mexico PMP have entered into agreements with NABP to participate in the NABP PMP InterConnectSM. The NABP InterConnect facilitates the sharing of data between state PMPs, a key element for early detection, intervention, and prevention of substance abuse and diversion of controlled substances. Three states – Ohio, Indiana, and Virginia – have gone live with the NABP InterConnect, with Ohio and Indiana allowing authorized PMP users statewide to request data from among the three PMPs, and Virginia allowing select users to request data. PMPs in Arizona, Connecticut, Kansas, Mississippi, North Dakota, South Carolina, and West Virginia have signed memorandums of understanding as the first step in participating in the NABP InterConnect.
NABP will cover the NABP InterConnect annual participation fees for all participating states for at least five years, and it is the Association’s goal that states will never have to pay annual participation fees to participate. In addition, NABP will cover all costs associated with the development and ongoing operation of NABP InterConnect. More information about the NABP PMP InterConnect is in the Programs section of the NABP Web site. Those interested in obtaining more information should contact NABP Government Affairs staff at governmentaffairs@nabp.net.
